My Favorite Productions List
I was going to order them in what I like, but really, they all mean something different to me. Like each one would be at the top of different category lists. So in the meantime, I’ll just list these as is and will updated them when I can. But what I got out of the class is that this list is more to describe what I look for in a play. What I find interesting. What I like and what I’d like my writing to do for the audience as much as each one has done for me.
- RENT – Jonathan Larson
- A Soldiers Play – Charles Fuller
- M. Butterfly – David Henry Hwang
- In the Heights – Lin-Manuel Miranda
- Zoot Suit – Luis Valdez
- A Few Good Men – Aaron Sorkin
- Love in the Nick of Tyme – David E. Talbert
- Night, Mother – Marsha Norman
- Love in a Dream House in Lorin – Marcus Gardley
- Betrayed – George Packer
- Lt. of Inishmore – Martin McDonagh
- Crimes of the Heart – Beth Henley
- Cat on a Hot Tin Roof – Tennessee Williams
- Equus – Peter Shaffer
- Reasons to be Pretty – Neil LaBute
- Glengary Glen Ross – David Mamet
Just glancing at this list, I see a couple of themes that define my style of what kind of production I’m gravitated to seeing:
- Varied ethnicities being portrayed as an insight into culture
- The Peter Shafer story structure
- Human stories
- Very natural dialogue that keeps the pace of the story
