7:21pm
So, I’m looking at the program and noticed that it says, “A New Work in Development.” that’s pretty cool. I mean for a show to be produced but kinda still feel lime it has a safety net of the word “development”.
It’s funny, cuz I forgot that I had bought tix to this. Glad for reminders from GoldStar. Anyways, I’ll write a review soon. In the meantime, I like the pre-show music from and electric keyboard (synthesizer)!
8:51pm intermission
– Jesse character really likeable
– flashbacks using moving sets with main Character watching and commenting on
– narrator breaks wall during flashbacks of what the younger Conner is really feeling
– reveal of Jesse’s death seems rather sudden
– okay to have a flawed main character in order for the arc to occur
– If you have 2 characters that are the same people, have them have same mannerisms or quotes. The little things.
– didn’t really feel the “relationship” between Connor and Lela
– heard an audience “ahhh” when Lela’s character was revealed, after James (Connor’s new work partner) set then up via phone and name on napkin
– don’t understand why they are given a month to come up with a proposal. That doesn’t make sense
– doesn’t dwell on area specific details (BART, City Hall, etc.)
– wonder if any of the minor characters will return in second act.
10:10pm
– forgot how good it sounds with a cast that echoes or steps over each other to tell a story or memory.
– is there a way to end the story at the grave? False ending. Didn’t need the button at the end.
– “we have to call the cops.” “we can’t.” that can’t is pretty powerful in that it means that they don’t have the same “rights” as others which means that they can’t. But I don’t think that would’ve been possible if this was in San Francisco.
– like it when a flashback is re-introduced, that the last couple of lines/actions are picked up. Like it’s edited a few beats before the scene is refresheshed ie (coming back from intermission)
