So, I’m in another spot trying to write and unfortunately, I have to spotlight the word TRYING. Oh Yoda! Why do you have to be so right. Anyways, hopefully this will be a little fruitful and this little time is put to good use just to get things literally out of my head to start fresh. With regards to the Esperanza play… it’s going very slow. I’m constantly thinking about it and I know that I’m on the verge of letting it all come out, and I love that magical feeling when the play starts to come to life. I think that it’s still in it’s gestation stage.
So, while in this process, I’m finding out how I like to work:
- Write in an informal outline first
- Come up with a synosis (logline/elevator spiel)
- Write the story as a short story
- Break the short story into scenes
- Write the play
- Have a reading
- Re-write
Regarding Esperanza, I’m tweaking the informal outline. Not very far 🙁
Another thought that crossed my mind during this process is to write a series of short plays. I think this frame of thought is coming through just because I know that I can write short plays pretty quickly based on the time I had with Midnight Mass scripts. Plus, I think the theme for these plays fit better with my writing style.
Plan for tonight:
- Work on the outline for full-length
- Logline
- Short Story
- Brainstorm ideas for short plays
…and go!
