I’m on hiatus. Is that okay to say? Probably not. But… I am. Have I lost the “eye of the tiger?” Not particularly, but I will say that I’m taking a bit of a break from the hustle for now. Not making excuses (which ALWAYS is code for, ‘hey, this is an excuse’) but at the end of school, I was hustling like heck in trying to get two plays stage read and one in production and frankly it burnt me out. So after graduation, I so needed a break!
Add on to all of this, I really started to invest everything I had into my new (old) job. I’m tackling it with a brand new perspective. One of the reasons I left this job was because that burnt me out despite the company preach a “work/life balance” model. At the end of my first run, the work part tipped the balance on the scale and saw myself on the outs. The bright part of having this experience is to make sure I don’t go the same route this time. I’m attacking each hurdle as an opportunity to grow with the knowledge, and experience, of being extremely hurting for money–especially during my time in school.
With all this being said, my task is to take the life (in the work/life balance) part and infuse that with the work. Hmmm… how do I do that while not being too tired after 5pm? One thing that may help is to get my health together. Which means that I’ll have to watch what I eat and definitely schedule time to exercise. Boom. No talk, do.
July is fast approaching and I need to set some goals for my playwriting career:
– look at submissions for July
– submit plays that I have that seem fit for those calls
– write plays for those submissions
Boom . No talk . Do.
Well, what do you know? Having a blog/website actually does help in keeping this Career Path in order! The investment is starting to pay off.
