“What did you think? Did it meet your expectations?” It’s been a long minute since someone’s asked me that about a new work. It feels like it’s been forever since I’ve even written something new.
So DEVOTED, my 10-minute timeless love story told through time, officially opens tonight. I’m not going to be there for a variety of reasons: didn’t buy a ticket (when I should have used my comp for this), free up an extra seat, want more peeps to see it, i’m already seeing it later in the run, etc. But I’m glad to catch it last night! To answer my opening question, Lorenz and the cast EXCEEDED my expectations! I wanted to tape it but convinced myself to stay in the moment.
Oddly enough, I wasn’t nervous. That was because I’ve already convinced myself that this version of the play isn’t the last of it. So theoretically, this was the preview of what might work or what might need more cleaning up or explanation as I begin work on the full-length.
These are my general notes of where I see DEVOTED going:
- Am I going to keep the title?
- NEED to know more about each of the characters!
- Musical?
All in all, I’m proud of the work that everyone has put into this year’s production of The Love Edition. I’ve been seeing this show for years and watched it evolve into seeing it sell out almost every night of the run. Proud and grateful for the opportunity to share something I love.
