I can’t believe I’m going to attempt writing 31 plays in 31 days again, but here goes it!
For those who aren’t familiar, the name of this challenge says it all–write 31 plays in 31 days. The challenge is usually set in August. For more info and awesome tips, tricks and prompts: https://31plays31days.com
Since January, I haven’t written anything new. I’ve been editing scripts, but I miss feeling like an artist and the most I ever felt like being a creator was when I was cursing the fact that I was 5 plays behind in my last 31 plays challenge with 3 days to go and I couldn’t fail!
And since my focused has primarily changed from wanting to focus on the 10s to Full-Lengths, it felt wrong for me to feel like 10s are merely writing exercises. I loved 10s because it gave me a chance to tell stories I wouldn’t have the energy and time to put into writing a full-length, but STILL get out the stories I felt needed to be told.
In that vein, I’m going to try to write each of these plays without a searched prompt. I like having to pull story ideas from within and what I find interesting and new. In the end, by writing plays in this way gives me the confidence that I can literally pull a story out of my ass in a moments notice in order I can chalk these up to learning experiences!
Since there’s no official 31 Plays in 31 Days initiative this year where we once had to upload our plays into Submittable, I’m stoked to type my plays on this blog! So no formatting–just plays. And if I find anything salvageable, it’ll be a quick cut-and-paste!
So, here it goes… Day 1 Play 1…
