It’s been a while since I last checked-in, so what better way to do it than here and right now!
My brain is scattered at the moment. Even though that’s the case right now, I have been pretty active with concentrating on my submitting. I’ve submitted to 7 calls since 1/31. That’s actually been a good part of my playwright routine:
- go through my emails daily and star play opps coming from the [playwrightbinge] email group
- check my play submission helper excel sheet for opps
- either see if any of my plays fit the criteria and if any do, then submit
- if there’s a play opp that sounds really interesting, I’ll write a new play and submit
That’s been pretty much my routine for the past couple of weeks.
But one thing I’m pretty excited to begin is the #EndOfPlay program that takes place in March 2020 where we’re tasked to write either a new full-length or 2 one-acts as a solo expedition or as part of a group. I have SO MANY ideas written on my Play Ideas list that I really need to get a start on! So, the process of narrowing down which play I want to work on is going to be fun.
As fate would have it, I met an old college mate (who I cast and directed from my first full-length play) who wants to get together to write a screenplay! The thought of writing a screenplay has been on my thoughts for quite a while now and to have this opportunity presented is Universe sent. Meeting has been set, so we’ll see where it goes from there!
WELGA, The One-Act, will be a part of the Lenaea High School Theatre Festival, this weekend in Folsom, CA. It’s going to be performed by Cosumnes Oaks and Pinkerton Wolfpack Performing Arts from Cosumnes Oaks High School. I’m so excited to see this performed! I’ll be honest, it was a WHIRLWIND to get this done for them. Because of the 45 minute time limit, I’m pretty sure that the full-length clocked in between 90 – 100 minutes, I had to cut so many scenes to fit. I FELT SO BAD for cutting scenes that my favorite characters were in. Crummy was what I felt for not giving the actors who originally played those actors in those scenes the light for them to shine. So, they perform the one-act Sunday morning at 8:30am and I’ll be cheering them on!
I’m pretty stoked that I have a new play that’s going to have it’s first official stage production going up in May. Can’t wait to publicly announce it pending my own superstitions of not announcing anything until the producing theatre company starts to post about it! So… be on the look out! So excited!!!
What else… oh, I’m committed to submitting something to get into Playground this year! Main focus is to write a killer 10 minute play which I’ll be proud of no matter if I get in or not! One thing I did to prep for this was to sign-up for a playwriting workshop that was hosted by them. I got to meet their AD and got a lot of great tips on what makes a great 10!
I think I’ll leave this post here. I’m glad to take the time to write these future plans out here. Not in any particular order, here are my playwriting goals of 2020:
- Submit at least 60 plays this year. Only 5 plays a month! Let’s go!
- Write a new full-length! Haven’t written one since Grad School, but definitely itching to do so!
- Find a screenwriting class to take!
I’ll stick with these goals FOR NOW!
